Game Description
Crazy Steam Bros is a retro-style horizontal shooter with a humorous steampunk twist. This shooting game features detailed sprite graphics, a soundtrack inspired by music from the late Victorian era or early 1900s, and simple controls.
Crazy Steam Bros follows the story of Anton and DuPont, two brothers who have built a steam-powered flying machine. Your mission is to guide the brothers as they try to save the world from the evil Baron who has unleashed an army of mechanized terrors. This translates to flying through levels, destroying enemies, and defeating the boss at the end of each level. You must fight the Baron's forces, gain power-ups, and defeat all the bosses!
In terms of gameplay, Crazy Steam Bros is somewhat reminiscent of the classic horizontal side-scroller, R-Type. Like R-Type, you will have to contend with both enemies and the terrain of each level. Crashing into cliffs or the tops of buildings can be just as damaging as being shot by enemies, if not more so. The powerup scheme is different from R-Type's, however. Instead of having a Force weapon, powerups are attained by collecting icons dropped by Miss Lily (the lady in the pink aircraft). The type of powerup that is gained by collecting the icon changes rapidly, so it is best to time your collection of it so that you get the powerup that you desire.
Unlike most modern shoot 'em ups of its type, Crazy Steam Bros is not a high-paced bullet hell type of game. Instead, it is a slower-paced shooting game with long levels. Fans of classic SHMUPs will enjoy the slower gameplay since it hearkens back to the old games that we miss. Modern gamers, on the other hand, may not appreciate the game's slow pace and want millions of bullets to dodge and frantic techno background music. While Crazy Steam Bros may not have these things, later levels do become more challenging with larger waves of enemies and more terrain to navigate. Modern gamers may also appreciate the fact that health regenerates in this shooting game, a common trait in many contemporary games.
Crazy Steam Bros may not be a manic, high-paced danmaku, but it is a satisfying shoot 'em up that old-school fans of the genre will surely enjoy.
How To Play
Crazy Steam Bros is controlled by using the keyboard. Use the arrow keys to move, the X key to shoot, and the C key to drop bombs. The P key pauses the game.
